Beach walk
You can walk along uninterrupted beaches all the way from your front door to the Maspalomas light house at the extreme Southern end of the island -- a two-hour, 10-kilometer walk.
You'll see the Cochino beach, the Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas beach including its famed sand dunes and remote nude bathing area. The reward at the end of your morning is lunch at one of the new restaurants on Las Meloneras esplanade. From there, it's tempting to grab a taxi home, but if you do, remember to bring a shirt to comply with local taxi regulations.
Dining
Ten minutes down the beach to the South, follow a sign to Il Duomo, a nice Italian restaurant and pizzeria.
In the opposite direction, after a 3-minute walk from Las Barcas, you'll find the San Agustín Shopping Center where you can enjoy nice dinners in various places - Italian food at Piccola Italia, great Basque cuisine at Restaurante Serantes and Greek food at the Greek Taverna restaurant.
Loopy's is the original and still the best informal terrace restaurant in the South. It's staffed by loud, friendly waiters who never seem to change from year to year. The pizzas, beer and atmosphere and guaranteed to leave you with a smile.
Several good restaurants can be found at the promenade at Las Meloneras, just South of the Maspalomas lighthouse where you'll find beautiful sunsets and very nice shops.
