Local Attractions

Beach walk
You can walk along uninterrupted beaches all the way from your front door to the Maspalomas light house at the extreme Southern end of the island -- a two-hour, 10-kilometer walk.

You'll see the Cochino beach, the Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas beach including its famed sand dunes and remote nude bathing area. The reward at the end of your morning is lunch at one of the new restaurants on Las Meloneras esplanade. From there, it's tempting to grab a taxi home, but if you do, remember to bring a shirt to comply with local taxi regulations.

Dining
Ten minutes down the beach to the South, follow a sign to Il Duomo, a nice Italian restaurant and pizzeria.

In the opposite direction, after a 3-minute walk from Las Barcas, you'll find the San Agustín Shopping Center where you can enjoy nice dinners in various places - Italian food at Piccola Italia, great Basque cuisine at Restaurante Serantes and Greek food at the Greek Taverna restaurant.

Loopy's is the original and still the best informal terrace restaurant in the South. It's staffed by loud, friendly waiters who never seem to change from year to year. The pizzas, beer and atmosphere and guaranteed to leave you with a smile.

Several good restaurants can be found at the promenade at Las Meloneras, just South of the Maspalomas lighthouse where you'll find beautiful sunsets and very nice shops.
Go karting
Only five minutes North of Las Barcas, you can find the longest go kart track in Spain. Karting is a popular local sport in Gran Canaria. It's fun to watch young kids in full Fernando Alonso garb rip around the track on their private karts, and even more fun to rent one and race friends, clocking your time on the computerized scoreboard.

Palmitos Park
The birds of prey show takes place in an amphitheatre located on top of a mountain surrounded by panoramic views. Eagles, falcons and several species of owls in free flight perform spectacular aerobatics at up to 200 km/hr.

Aqualand Maspalomas
You probably had no idea how much fun splashing around could be, until you try this, a theme park devoted to water.
Pozo Izquierdo
This high wind and surf windsurfing mecca is only a few kilometers up the road from Las Barcas. Your trip may coincide with a World Tour circuit championship, but even if it doesn't, you can expect to see elite athletes in training. If you can handle demanding conditions, why not rent some gear and join them?

Golf
9 courses on the island, situated everywhere from sea to mountain. Three courses are located within a 6-kilometer radius of Las Barcas: Maspalomas Golf, Meloneras Golf and Salobre Golf.
The Interior
Hikers will find the mountainous uplands of Gran Canaria to offer trails for every skill level, unparalleled vistas and a uniquely traditional, slow-life culture.
